You probably don’t think too much about your roof until there is a problem. You assume it will do its job by simply protecting you and your family from the elements, so it can be a little alarming when you notice that your roof is leaking, especially if you can’t tell where it is coming from.
Roof valleys are probably the most important part of your roof. Rain will flow through the valleys as it heads towards the gutters and out through the downpipes. A valley that is compromised will be susceptible to leaks.
If a valley isn’t installed correctly, the rainwater, which carries along with it twigs, leaves, moss, bits of broken tiles, block the intended pathway and renders the valley useless. The blockage and the constant stream of rainwater and matter then put pressure on the surrounding tiles which then cause considerable damage.
Gradually, these types of roofing defects worsen and lead to damp issues as nominal as discoloration to internal paint work to an entire ceiling collapsing and rainwater entering the property, like the image above. No amount of stain stop can prevent Mother Nature from crashing into your home.
As soon as you notice water stains on the ceiling or running down walls, it is important to take care of it. Even if it just seems like a minor leak, ignoring it will only lead to bigger problems. While concern over the expense might be holding you back from getting that ever-growing stain on your ceiling checked out, you are only going to end up with a more expensive bill if you keep putting it off.
