Rising Damp? I don’t think so…

Rising Damp? I don’t think so… True rising damp is extremely rare. Penetrating damp is very common. Damp is nature and nature is clever and cunning. She has been here long before we were. She’ll come into your home via atmospheric moisture, penetrating laterally through your walls or coming up through the floor due to ground vapor. The image above is the direct result of a defective flat roof, the rainwater has penetrated the roof, descended down through the brickwork dragging the salts you can see in the image, and then puddles at the base. Subsequently saturating the adjacent porous materials. There is more to a damp survey than just a failed damp proof course. It’s a crime scene that needs serious thought and wisdom to get right.
